Improving your poker memory: start slow

Posted in Poker News at 7:16 pm by andr3y

Not only beginners have problem with remembering past actions of their opponents, this happens to experienced players too. Here are some good tips on improving your poker memory:

1. Start slow, pick one player and analyse the shit out of him, spend an entire 4 hours session focussing on a single player . Dont move to the next one until you have a good feel for that player.
2. Never look at your hole cards until it’s your turn to act. You may not remember things because you aren’t watching. This will force to watch other players and not let you become disinterested when you find a crap hand.
3. Try to put people on hands, even when you are out of the hand. It will keep you interested in the game and make you watch every play.
4. Take notes after the game.
5. Try one of those meory training books. here are a few suggestions: “The memory book” by Harry Lorayne, Jerry Lucas; “Mega Memory” by Kevin Trudeau; Your Memory by Kenneth L. Higbee.

Shuffling Right - Scramble-riffle-riffle-box-riffle-cut

Posted in Poker News at 4:14 pm by andr3y

I have seen many people complaining about the way casinos shuffle cards. Sources of complaining usually because they are not getting good hands or someone on the table having winning streak. I have seen people get hit with pockets one after another, makes you wonder…

If you see something like that happening, you a getting bad hands all the time or someone is on a crazy streak. Just ask your dealer to Scramble or Wash the deck. If even after this there is no change, then thit is just you luck, sit it out quietly and cards will come.

Doyle’s Poker Room - get his book directly from him

Posted in Poker News at 2:32 pm by andr3y

While everyone buzzing about this new room and its great tournaments take a look at the Store. As you would expect Doyle Brunson sells his books there. I compared prices with Amazon and they are a few backs off which is pretty good deal!!!
for example:
Doyle Brunson’s Super/System 2

Retail Price $34.95
Your Price $17.95
Amazon: $23.07

Not much savings, but if you don’t have it and thinking of buying it, its unlikely that you will ever get a better deal. Plus why buy Doyles book from Amazon if you can buy them directly from his store.
Respect Doyle!!!

Poker Tells - “Weak Means Strong and Strong Means Weak.”

Posted in Poker Tips and Tricks at 1:51 pm by andr3y

I have been ignoring poker tells for a long time before finally started paying attention to them. I think its largely because when you are beginner poker player there is just so much going on at the table that you don’t have time to notice all those little things like body tells.

Mike Caro once said “Weak Means Strong and Strong Means Weak.”

This sums everything pretty nicely. People want to seem strong when they are weak and weak when they are strong, if they are not total newbies in poker of course. I would suggest to get started with this short article at AskMan.com and then maybe as you try those suggested in your game check out Mike Caro’s Book of Poker Tells.
If you can read this book and use it in your game you will become a monster player guarantied.

Online Poker bots – Know your enemy

Posted in Poker News at 2:10 pm by andr3y

I really don’t feel right about writing about this, because I really hate people who use some sort of cheat in the game, any sort of game, online or not. And yes I do think this is cheating.

Recently there have been a number of article on poker bots as well as bot software itself floating around (links at the bottom). At 1st after reading those articles and taking a brief look at the software, I got a little scared. Well, its not like I didn’t know that those bots where around its just now its becoming public. Anyone can go download a program and start using it, I thought, but of course its not that simple.

For example to use WinHoldEm which you successfully downloaded and installed you still need to program it yourself. WinHoldEm is like a bot with out a brain, you have to tell it what to do and there are millions of scenarios more over you have to make sure that what you program is strategically correct in terms of poker. It will take countless hours to program this thing and in the process of testing it you may find bugs which cost you money. I know what you think, you think:”well, its not that bad, after that I can be making LOTS of cash”, right? I am would not be too sure. Online poker sites are constantly looking for ways to stop people from cheating and by the time you finish writing your bot, it will be detected the moment you bring it online, that would suck eh?

However if you can get your hands on already preprogrammed bot that a whole different story, even I who hates cheating wouldn’t mind having one, I confess, I am just a greedy human.

If you what to know more about this read article and visit WinHoldEm forum, good luck

Absolute-Poker-design competition

Posted in Poker News at 9:57 pm by andr3y

Absolute poker apraently has an option so that you can change your talble skin. It’s that cool or what? I dont want to complain but some sites out there has horriable and i mean really really bad skins. Those skins are practicaly unplayble since you just cannot sit there for 30min coz your eyes get tired from watching at this bright red carper or something. I am sure you know what I mean. So… anyway not only Absolute poker has this feature, but i am guessing it was very popular so they decided to have a contest!!! You can participate too.
